Plays and Players announces Happy Holidays, a readers’ theatre presentation of holiday stories, essays, and anecdotes, celebrating the joys, frustrations, and foibles of the holiday season. Bill Robinson has put together selections from authors Augusten Burroughs, H. H. Munro, and Erma Bombeck among others. Appearing in this program will be such Plays and Players favorites as Ray Smith, Kate Randall, Patti Mengers, Linda Gryn, Clint Randall and Mark Randall on the piano. There will be one performance only on Monday, December 6th at 7:30PM. Quig’s Pub will be open before and after the show, starting at 7PM.

Drawing from the theatrical traditions of Albee, Ionesco and Beckett, two veteran improvisers launch themselves into a newly generated world of absurdity and existentialist themes. Plays and Players Theater is located at 1714 Delancey Place in Center City Philadelphia (off of 17th and 18th Streets, between Spruce & Pine). This is a small, residential street so please take that into consideration when approaching the theater. IT IS NOT A THROUGH STREET.

Accessibility

Please note: Plays & Players is a historic theater over 100 years old. We are currently working on improving the amenities the theater has to offer including the rest rooms and accessibility. Unfortunately the theater does not currently have handicap accessible rest rooms, nor an elevator. Wheel chairs can get into the main theater, but there are no rest rooms on the ground floor.

Driving Directions

From New Jersey/Ben Franklin Bridge:
From the Ben Franklin Bridge, follow signs to 676 West/Vine St Expressway. Make a left on 17th Street. Main entrance to the theater can be accessed on Delancey Place from 17th street by taking a right on Lombard Street (one block south of Pine Street), right on 18th Street and another right on Delancey Place (essentially making a U-turn from 17th St).

From Points West:
Take 76 East to 676 East (left exit). Take 676 East to the Broad/15th Street Exit. Make a right onto 15th Street (going south). Make a right on Lombard Street (one block south of Pine Street), another right on 18th, and a final right on Delancey Place.

From Points North:
Take 95 South to 676 West. Follow directions from New Jersey/Ben Franklin Bridge above.

From Points South:
Take 95 North to 676 West. Follow directions from New Jersey/Ben Franklin Bridge above.

Public Transportation Subway:

From the Walnut-Locust Station on the Broad Street Line the theater is a 10-min walk. Head west on Walnut Street and then south on 17th street. Delancey Place will be on the right-hand side, just past Spruce Street.

Wednesday, October 20
7:00 – 10:00pm

Boozy Broadway will make it’s triumphant and tipsy return to Plays & Players stage after a long lockdown! The cast will present a musical theater cocktail (2 parts singing, 1 part trivia game, garnished with banter, served up). A fun and festive evening for showtime savants and Broadway virgins alike! Doors and the bar open at 7pm; show starts at 7:30pm. $5 at the door.

Please be advised that vaccination cards are required and the Skinner Studio is only accessable by stairs.

A comedic storytelling and panel show about recovery. Best of Philly Comedian Betty Smithsonian hosts this intimate and hilarious exploration of who we are, what we’ve recovered from, and how that makes us who we are today. You will have TWO chances to catch this show.
